Yokai Pagoda Review – Creature feature
A review copy of Yokai Pagoda was kindly provided by Zatu Trade. Thoughts & opinions are my own. With so many card games to choose from, a new one has to do something pretty special to stand out from the crowd. While Yokai Pagoda might not blow your socks off with its originality or mechanisms, it’s a really good, highly competitive game which gets tighter and more enjoyable with every play.

Wer einmal davor […]

Video Review: Star Wars: Battle of Hoth from Days of Wonder
Star Wars: Battle of Hoth is a fast-paced, tactical miniature board game designed by Richard Borg and Adrien Martinot that is a part of the Commands & Colors Series. The game uses cards that will activate units in a certain area of the board, which is divided into 3 areas, to move, attack or perform a special action or ability. The object of the game is usually to be the first to claim a set number of victory medals (usually 4 to 5, depending on the
selected battle scenario’s victory conditions). In Battle of Hoth a victory medal is gained for each enemy unit entirely eliminated from the battlefield. Each medal won this way is designated by placing the last miniature of the eliminated unit on any of the available medal stands located on the bottom left of each side of the board. In some scenarios, additional medals may be gained from the board itself, for capturing or holding certain terrain hexes or battlefield objectives. Some scenarios may outline special victory conditions, described in the scenario special rules section.

6 Nimmt! (Digital Eyes)
There's something weirdly satisfying about watching a plan fall apart. You carefully chose a card, after considering what has already been played. You convinced yourself that everything will be fine, until everyone reveals their cards and the numbers fall into place. Suddenly you're collecting a whole bunch of negative points. It's simple, but a lot of fun. All you have to remember is that 6 Nimmt! by Wolfgang Kramer from Amigo, with art by Franz Vohwinkel.

Solitaire Video Review: Iwo Jima 1945 from Worthington Publishing
A few years ago, Worthington Publishing published their first game in the Island Fight Series called Tarawa 1943. That game was awesome and was truly difficult to win, as it should be. Now, they have published the 2nd volume in the series called Iwo Jima 1945 that covers the only island assault during the Pacific war that the attacking US forces would suffer worse casualties than the Japanese defenders. On February 19, 1945 the USMC would land 30,000 marines on the island against a Japanese defensive force that numbered roughly 21,000 Japanese soldiers. Facing a Japanese commander who had learned valuable lessons from the losses on other Japanese islands, the USMC would eventually land over 70,000 marines and suffer over 25,000 casualties during the 36 day campaign.
In this solitaire game, the player takes on the role of the USMC commander leading the invasion of Iwo Jima. The game system, driven by cards, will simulate the strategies of the Japanese defenders, often referred to as the Japanese AI, adding a layer of historical authenticity to your gaming experience. If you have played Tarawa 1943, you will be familiar with the system.
