This expansion is a great addition to the Game. This expansion adds so much to the play including a campaign mode, mission cards, reinforcements as well as adding new base cards to expand your gaming experience even more.

First up is the new mission system.  Unlike with the original game where there was a shared Galaxy Row, now there missions to complete that allow you to claim the relevant reinfroceent card and add it directly to the top of your deck.  This means you can plan around unlocking units rather than hoping for a lucky galaxy row flip.

The new Campaign Mode means that rather than just playing one game  you play five games back to back to work out the winner.  Each of the 5 parts repesent a major phase of the galactic conflict. You complete missions in each game.  Then between games you can use points from the previous mission to buy as many of the new starter cards as you can afford to replace the old ones with so that you always have 10 starter cards in play.

This is actually two original expansions added together to make one really cool expansion to elevate the Tokaido experience. I took out the box insert from the original game and they both now fit in the box with the original game which means you still only need to take one box to games night.

These expansions actually turn the game into a slightly more complex game without lsoing that simple, wonderful flow that makes Tokadio so special. These expansions are prety much the same as the original expansions but of a much better quallity, so if you have the original expansions it is up to you if you  want to get these better component expansions. If like me you don’t have them then I highly recommend this expansion box.

There are a few more treasures to add even more to your collecting joy. There are more options to each move, for instance Panoramas now give you a choice of gaining the card for the view or gaining a cherry tree which adds one coin and two points to your turn or take other choices from other places you can visit.

Beyond that there are also another twenty five more travelers to pick from. Added to this game are now Clandestine Gambling Rooms to try your luck in and see if you can gain even more treasures.

Flamecraft is one of the surprise games over the last few years and now there is an amazing new expansion out for it. This adds five new modules that can be added to your game, although I recommend only adding one or two to begin with, as it starts getting very complex otherwise.

First up is the Hydragons module which introduces 15 “dual” Hydragons, each with a completely unique “fire up” ability.  To play, you simply shuffle a team of 6 of these directly into your artisan dragon deck.  Next up is the Dragons starter shop which is a new courtyard starter shop where your dragons are “dual-ing”.  This gives you something different to your standard starting setup.

There’s the Upscale Cards Module featuring 18 cards that offer a brand-new way to enchant.  The central Elder statue gets “glittered” with these Upscales, thus allowing you to gift goods and coins during an Enchant action to claim extra magical rewards. Then the new companion dragons, these 6 wander into town looking for a buddy, allowing you to expand your pool of specialized rule-bending assistants.

Finally there are Adventurer Dragons, these 7 new artisan dragons are added to the deck (6 of these are classic adventure-themed artisans and 1 who is too fancy for standard work.)  As well as these 5 modules there is the “Parks and Crafts” mat which is a new neoprene park mat that introduces a rule modification letting dragons “fire up” once per turn while hanging out in the park.

As you can add these modules in any combination this gives you a lot more options when playing the game (31 by my calculations provided you are brave enough to play with 3, 4 or even all 5 modules!)

This is a new game from the wonderful people who bought us Pandemic. Once again they bring us a game that while using some of the Pandemic mechanics, feels like a different game. It does feel very much like a Lord of the Rings experience and not just a rebadge of the original game. This is a co-operative game where you can explore , do objectives and then finally destroy the ring.

You each play as a set of 2 characters which include Frodo and Sam, who of course must finally destroy the ring. On your turn you can do 4 actions with one character and 1 action with the other Middle-Earth has been divided up into twelve areas and you start in different positions across the board. Sauron isn’t going to just let you sit back, his forces are controlled by an interesting card mechanic with different troops ready to move along different lines depending on cards drawn at the end of each round and these forces intensify at various points in the game.

While some co-operative games can suffer from an alpha player take over, the nice thing is that with the objectives you can split up and do the objectives near your area without one player telling everyone what to do. Then team up for the final objective which is of course destroy the ring.

The Trickster or Loki as he is also known heads up an evil team with The Enchantress and they mess with the minds of the Heroes. This gives a fight that the Heroes are fighting inside their minds as well as other with other heroes while not knowing who or what they can trust. from the graphic novels he was known as Loki Laufeyson and he was the Trickster God of Mischief, Evil, and Lies, a member of the monstrous Frost Giants of Jotunheim that was adopted and raised among the Asgardians, a group of humanoid beings from the pocket dimension of Asgard, the Realm Eternal. Born smaller than the rest of his race and rejected by his father Laufey, he was adopted by the All-Father; Odin following the war. He was taken back to Asgard to be raised alongside his adopted brother Thor. He was worshiped by the humans known as Vikings and became part of Norse Mythology. Loki grew jealous of his brother after learning his true origin and schemed against him and Asgard. His later cosmic meddling led to the formation of the Avengers, “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes”. He has the ability to call his wolf Fenris to him amongst many other of his baddies.  The Enchantress is a being from Thors realm and in fact she has the hots for Thor and is usually wound up by Loki into attacking Thor. 

So how do these work in the game.  First of all you have to take on the Enchantress, wh will hit you with a hypnotic gaze.  There are five different hypnotic gaze cards each with a different enchantment on the opposite side, get too many charm counters and the card gets flipped to its unique “trance” side and gives you the Enthralled trait which has an immediate effect and also causes you to take a forced action.  For example you might be confused or take damage and also forced to draw a card and play it.  Also being enthralled will make side schemes nastier to deal with.

Then you have to deal with Loki, but things are never simple with Loki and you have to first deal with his Avator’s who are spread out.  This is where you get to play the new “Epic Mupltiplayer Mode”  as each player group has to deal with their own batch of the four avators facing off against a randomly-chosen avator that gets swapped out for another each time one is defeated.  Each time you defeat one, you Shatter the Illusion that allows you to actually damage the real Loki.  But of course Loki is going to just sit there and take damage, once he gets down to half heath, his focus intensifys and his avators get powered up making it even more difficult.

However, there are also some Enthralled Minions, who if you manage to knock back to their senses then they will actually team up with you to help take down the villains, which could well swing the battle back in your favour.

This is an interesting game set on the island of Shikoku, this is a more little bit more complex game than the original Tokaido but it is actually still a fun light game. This has a more in depth map than the original game has and the complexity is in how you use the extra two figures you each have to get the most out of your play. As I have stated unlike the original game each player has three tokens to move and play (a pilgrim an artist4 and a merchant) and a number of zones to do so, they include four mountain towns while the outer zones include temples, gardens, seashores, coastal towns and hot springs.

The aim of the game is points collecting. You collect points in a number of ways and work out at the games end who has won. As in the original you can’t land on an already occupied space so that can be annoying!

This is the 2 player game from one of my favourite games, Everdell is such a fun game with so many enjoyable characters and such a lovely town that you can build and explore and enjoy to your hearts content. 

This is such a fun version of the game that takes so much less time to play yet doesn’t lack any of the fun of the original game If you are looking for a two player that will give you a lot of joy this is it and once you have played it , it can leave you so much more time to play again or play until another player turns up.

I was pleasantly surprised how much fun this game was and am very glad to have it in my collection. This is as much of a complex game to enjoy just a bit simpler to play. Using your critters to build your town to make the most points and win the game. In this case the critters are hares and tortoises, so   you must ask yourselves are you slow and steady or likely to end up in a hedge somewhere wandering what happened.

This is another great expansion from Stonemaier Games, with  lot of extra bits to change the game, but not too drastically.
To start with and importantly for me is the fact that it all fits in the main box and you get a new card holder that is more like the one that you get with Wingspan, to replace the old smaller holder.

You gain 5 new guilds and their cards. You also gain a whole load of Dragons that have some cool new powers which can make putting them in Caves easier if you reach the requirments. one of the new dragon types is called a fledgling, these will make your games that much more interesting. As with most expansions or games for that matter it is best to explore the game and see how you can make the most of them. If you do not like the game, then I am afraid but this wont fix that, but it will make the game more complex and fun.
