2026 has barely started and ~1000 new board games have been announced! We've read about the mechanics, looked at designers, absorbed the artwork and landed on our Top 10 Most Anticipated Board Games of 2026.
Thanks for stopping by! We're Amy & Maggie aka ThinkerThemer. We're an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game - Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the 'world' that the designer is trying to create. Subscribe to our channel to hear us talk about these two elements of a game, and how well integrated we feel these are in delivering a cohesive and wonderful game experience. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/450923/the-danes

We review this upcoming sci-fi deck builder that features multiplayer bids for some central cards! In Race to Kepler, you construct and eject from your deck of initially 10 cards, ultimately trying to get to Kepler first to win. There’s plenty of tried and true deckbuilding tabletop mechanics, like trashing cards and combo-ing hard off of money cards. By mixing in these special titan cards with the bidding dynamic, Race to Kepler is trying to smooth over problems like multiplayer solitaire. But are there trade-offs from having a bid? Players also get to play a specific city, each with asymmetric abilities to spend your energy on. There’s not much take-that, and with open drafting, so this game is readily accessible to many!
Hot Streak is the kind of party game where you place a couple of bets… and then immediately start yelling like you’re courtside at the Mascot Olympics. It’s fast, chaotic, and dangerously good at creating that “OK, one more race” feeling.
In this review, I cover:
• How the betting works (safe vs risky picks)
• How the race plays out (movement, collisions, wipeouts, surprises)
• What makes it so funny at the table
• Who it’s best for (and who should skip)
• Final thoughts: biggest upsides + downsides
If you’ve played Hot Streak, tell me: do you play it safe, or do you risk it all?

I have an internal rating system I use in evaluating whether a game will stay in my collection. It's fun to go back to the old gems I've covered using this lens. Did I or will I keep them? Have they been banished to the trade/sale pile?
Lots of positive feedback when I did it last time, so I will continue! The next video though will be a typical How to Play / Is It a Gem?

In this video, Tom tries to shoo away the January blues in the only way he knows how; by relentlessly over-playing a gentle game about trains, cars, and people.
We review the latest Stonemaier Game, Vantage! It is simultaneously not a campaign game but also one! It is also a tabletop game but also not in some ways! In Vantage, you play as an asymmetric character to explore an uncharted planet, attempting to complete your team’s mission. You will roll challenge dice and assign them to cards, in a bit of a Euro-style. You have narrative choices by opening the storybooks and discovering what happens to your character. The world of Vantage has many secrets, and a ridiculous amount of cards/art. But how does it hold up after many plays, like how it was intended to played? How does this compare to other cooperative games, or ones with a singular story?
Games featured: Eldritch Horror, Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion, Gloomhaven Buttons and Bugs, Tainted Grail, Tainted Grail: Kings of Ruin, Mansions of Madness, Arkham Horror the Dunwich Legacy, Oath, The Elder Scrolls Betrayal of the Second Era
