#231: Why Fight When You Can Negotiate?

23. Juni 2022 um 11:47

Yes, you could make the argument that every game is a negotiation game if you try hard enough, but for a lot of games it's more integral to the design. We look at games that we think integrate negotiation mechanics especially well, and ask how much is too much (or too little) when it comes to negotiation. Before we compromise, we talk about Septima, and Kremlin.

02:12 - Septima 18:09 - Kremlin 34:26 - Negotiation as a mechanic 35:51 - Catan 38:01 - Sidereal Confluence: Trading and Negotiation in the Elysian Quadrant 43:23 - Inis 45:45 - Rising Sun 47:31 - Between Two Cities 49:22 - Dune 50:28 - Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery 52:48 - Diplomacy

See You Space Cowboy with Gabe Barrett and Jamey Stegmaier

22. Juni 2022 um 20:01
Today’s show is the final episode of the BGDL podcast for the foreseeable future.

Jamey Stegmaier, the show’s very first guest, joins me, and we talk through the past, present, and future of the BGDL, and I talk a lot about what’s next for me.

I tell lots of stories, get a bit emotional, and talk about things I hope other designers can learn from. But more than anything, I hope you know how much I appreciate you and the BGDL community.

Thanks for listening!

Also, if you’d like to check out the new YouTube channel I’m launching in August, you can find it and subscribe HERE.

And one final time, good luck with everything you’ve got going on right now.

326 | The Radiant Citadel: Reimagining Adventure Games | Interview | with Jason and Ajit George

Heads up, One Stop Coop Shop fans! This episode will cover an RPG Adventure book, rather than a board game. The reason we are running it here is for adventure and dungeon crawler fans - let's see new stuff! We can stick with elves, orcs, swords, and forests, or we can open our minds to new perspectives from new creators. Ajit George is the creative lead for the new Adventure book for Dungeons and Dragons, Journey Through the Radiant Citadel. The book presents adventures for adults who want tough moral choices and creative depth in their games. It was written by an all-POC writing team with different takes on familiar adventuring. We discuss how it came about, what it hopes to accomplish, and addressing some of the cultural pushback. The dam has burst, and the flow of large player-count games rushes without signs of abating. We are willing to be sufficiently foolhardy to gather in larger groups, so the demand for 6+ player games has skyrocketed; and with it, the chance to return to old favourites. Dare we call it... a party?

Meanwhile Jules has been having a feast of fun with Bites, Mike has been navigating through the lies of Blood On The Clocktower, and Def is finally ready to talk about Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon.

In the Board Game Bracket we settle the last match-up, Quacks of Quedlinburg vs Too Many Bones, before we cue up the next battle: Gaia Project vs Raiders of the North Sea. To make sure your favourite goes through to the next round make sure you vote on our socials.

Finally, in Swear An Oath, Jules successfully played a multi-player game of Age of Steam, but failed to get Ortus Regni to the table. Meanwhile Mike is still yet to play Viscounts of the West Kingdom, and Def can't decide if he fulfilled his On Mars: Alien Invasion oath or not? New oaths include Root: The Marauder Expansion (Jules), Picture Perfect (Mike), and Railways of Australia (Def).
