Themes that Sell with Jon Gilmour

07. Februar 2018 um 14:05

Jon Gilmour, designer of Dead of Winter, discusses how to design the experiences and themes that people can’t wait to get their hands on. Jon just seems to have an innate ability to design games that go hand in hand with what people are excited about, and he gives me a tour behind the curtain on how he does it.

Jon also goes into a great deal of general design advice. We talk about working on lots of games at the same time, co-designers, going full time in the industry, and more. We cover a lot in this one.

Episode 152: Merlin, City of Iron, DOOM and a Short Topic Extravaganza

07. Februar 2018 um 06:55
Wow, it's been three weeks since our last full episode and we're making up for it by giving you an oversized, mega jammed packed show! First off Chris gives you another gaming movie review, we announce a new contest and run down all the games we've been playing. Then we do a deep dive discussion of Merlin by Stefan Feld. Since we were dumb and missed the look back last time, we're giving you a Look Back doubleheader, City of Iron Second Edition and DOOM! Then after Tony T goes bananas hooking you up with all the news of the past three weeks, we do another sport topic extravaganza including why we pick the Kickstarters we do, how many add-ons are too many add-ons, what are our gamer pet peeves and what party games we like to break out with our adult friends.

Boardgames To Go 180 - Post-BGGcon 2017 (with Greg Pettit)

Opener: Welcome to Season 14 of my podcast! (Also family gathering gaming with Take Your Pick, Raj, and Codenames) Closers: Pimping out Wits & Wagers with the Vegas Mat; "Mansplaining" boardgames

Geeklist: Post-BGGcon 2017

Back in November I returned to BGGcon, played a ton of games, and recorded TWO podcasts. Then the holidays, work, and family events took over. Now I'm finally getting the first one out, and I won't make you wait as long for the next one, either. This is a LOOONNNNGGGG episode, too. Not my normal approach, but this time there were lots of games to discuss with Greg. Be sure to check out the accompanying geeklist.

There's dad in summer 2016, grinning as he watches his family play a game together -Mark

#11: Gaia Project and Reskins & Second Editions

Von: Pickaxe
06. Februar 2018 um 23:03
Mark and Walker switch roles this week in a stunning reversal. Walker avoids telling Mark to "get good," but it's a close thing only narrowly avoided. In Walker's defense, Mark really should git gud--as has been noted by many a scholar and physician. They discuss the redevelopment of Terra Mystica called Gaia Project, and then they generalize to how publishers sometimes mess up new editions of their games. Mark's sanity is questioned throughout; probably a sound policy.

Games Played Last Week:
-Stone Age 1m17s (Bernd Brunnhofer, Hans im Gluck, 2008)
-Corporate America 3m44s (Teale Fristoe, Nothing Sacred Games, 2013)
-Scythe: The Wind Gambit 8m12s (Kai Starck & Jamey Stegmaier, Stonemaier Games, 2017)
-Mythic Battles: Pantheon 9m55s (Eric Bourlett & Benoit Vogt, Monolith, 2017)
-Galaxy Trucker 14m26s (Vlaada Chvatil, Czech Games Edition, 2007)

News (and why it doesn't matter):
-Asmodee Buys Something 18m01s
-ShipNaked and Dan Yarrington's Run-in with Phil Eklund 18m20s

Feature Game: Gaia Project 22m06s (Jens Drögemüller & Helge Ostertag, Feuerland Spiele, 2017)
