Episode 114 - Le Havre, Juicy Fruits, Mini Express

On this episode Steve and Def are joined by our very own Internet sensation - Mike, fresh from some online gaming sessions this week with Lincoln and Nikki from Game Night! and then Stella from Meeple University. (links below)

In our Sizzling Games segment Steve has been continuing his love affair with Uwe Rosenberg in Le Havre, Mike introduces us to the islands of Juicy Fruits (and introduces us to mangosteens, which I still swear is a made-up word!), and Def relives his childhood dreams of being a train conductor by playing Mini Express.

The Topic of the Pod is our most anticipated games: based on Kickstarters, expansions, retail releases, and rumours. Leave a comment on our socials if we didn't mention the game that you are most looking forward to!

In the Board Game Bracket 2.0 we settle last week's match-up: Cartographers vs Res Arcana, before we launch the next battle: Wingspan vs Archaeology.

We quickly check the mailbag for a quick Roast - the team share their favourite 2-player games and 4-player games, Def discloses his gaming priorities when moving house, and we laugh at the longest games the crew have ever played.

Finally in Swear An Oath, Mike fulfilled his oath of attempting 5x games solo and had an absolute blast. Def swore to play Scythe against not one but FOUR automas, and remarkably he came second! And Steve enjoyed the delightful Remember Our Trip. New oaths include Tiny Epic Dinosaurs and Stone Age (Mike), an online game with Steve & Mike (Def), and another Uwe Rosenberg classic: Caverna (Steve).

Episode 112 - Bonfire, Hostage Negotiator, Aeon's End Legacy

On this episode Steve, Sarah and Dan discuss games that are meant to be played with kids, but are just as much fun with adults. Have you ever taken one of your child's games and played it without them? Ever watched kids playing a game and thought that it looked like fun? We share our Top 3 kids' games that you can play without them!!

In our Sizzling Games, Sarah has been rallying her gnomes to build a Bonfire, Steve has been having a blast as a budding mage in Aeon's End Legacy, and Dan has been rescuing hostages while moonlighting as a Hostage Negotiator.

We wrap up last week's Bracket Battle match-up (Teotihuacan vs Nemo's War), and we set up the next duel: Res Arcana vs Cartographers.

Finally, in Swear An Oath, Steve continues his adventure down the path of Uwe Rosenberg games by playing Hallertau. Sarah is continuing to play all of her unplayed games in 2020, while still working on her 10x10 Challenge. Meanwhile Dan is still trying to finish his first game of Mage Knight, while exploring the intricacies of Atlantis Rising. New oaths for the team are Remember Our Trip (Steve), Teotihuacan Custom Challenges (Dan), and in a charity gesture: "helping Dan finish Mage Knight" (Sarah).

We wrap up last week's Bracket Battle match-up (Under Falling Skies vs Clans of Caledonia), and we set up the next duel: Teotihuacan vs Nemo's War.

Finally in Swear An Oath, Steve enjoyed the Uwe Rosenberg classic Le Havre. Sarah is continuing to play all of her unplayed games in 2020, still working on her 10x10 Challenge, and also managed to play Stephenson's Rocket. Meanwhile Mitch has every excuse under the sun as to why he still hasn't played Star Wars: Rebellion. Tonight we bring you a special episode: the 2020 Board Game BBQ Awards.

You may remember last month we put the call out to our community to nominate your favorite games of 2020 in nine categories. We were inundated with nominations and we took the most popular nominations in each category and they became the official nominees for the 2020 Awards.

And then we handed those nominations over to our esteemed panel of judges: our Patreon community, to vote on what they believe should be the best games of 2020 and worthy of the coveted Board Game BBQ award.

We recorded the award ceremony live at our recent retreat where the nine of us came together for the first time.

This podcast is an audio version of that awards ceremony but for full effect I’d encourage you to head over to our YouTube channel and watch the full video package that we have put together.
