Episode 45 - Special Guests: Our Family Plays Games, plus Towers of Arkhanos, PARKS, Isle of Cats, Forbidden Sky
Strap yourselves in! On this episode Sarah, Mike and Dan are joined by the fabulous Starla and Mik from Our Family Play Games. They are an absolute hoot and their enthusiasm for the hobby is infectious as they share with us their introduction to the hobby, some of their favourite games, and how they have made it their mission to introduce games to more families, and promote diversity in the hobby.
And the fun doesn't stop there! Starla and Mik stick around and share their Sizzling Game with us: Parks. It's a beautiful game from Henry Audubon and Keymaster Games. Meanwhile Dan has building towers and casting spells in The Towers of Arkhanos, Mike has been herding cats on Isle of Cats, and Sarah has her head in the clouds with Forbidden Sky.
Round 2 of the Board Game Bracket has come to a close and we announce the winners from the last two match-ups: Too Many Bones vs It's A Wonderful World, and Everdell vs Cosmic Encounter. Did your favourite games make it through Round 3? Make sure you tune into our next episode to hear what match-ups we have coming up in Round 3. And get ready to vote for your favourite.
Finally, in Swear An Oath, Dan still has to play Nemo's War and Sarah still needs to play TIME Stories: Lumen Fidei, but both commit to also bring Lanterns and The Magnificentto the table. Sarah, Def and Adrian are joined by Perth-based illustrator and graphic designer Ian O'Toole. Ian shares with us some of his experiences with Eagle-Gryphon Games, collaborating with Vital Lacerda, and offers some advice for those interested in illustrating board games.
In our Sizzling Games segment, Ian has been solving murders (or framing someone else!) in First Class: All Aboard The Orient Express, Def has fallen in love with Pipeline, Adrian has been dreaming of Steam Punk ever since he got to playtest Weather Machine, and Sarah has been card drafting and building castles in Between Two Castles of Mada King Ludwig
In the Board Game Bracket, we resolve Brass: Birmingham vs Mansions of Madness. And once Adrian stops talking about Mansions of Madness we can finally tee up our next battle: Cosmic Encounter vs Everdell.
Finally, in Swear An Oath, Def completed two oaths (Architects of the West Kingdom & D-Day The Dice Game) and swears an oath to play Clinic: Deluxe Edition, a game Ian worked on in 2019. And Ian gets in on the action by swearing to play Endangered and get it off his shelf of shame.

Episode 43 - Spot it!, Teotihuacan, Pandemic Legacy Season 2
They say never work with kids or animals. Well, we put that to the test on this episode as we hand the show over to our kids to tell us about their favourite games.
In Sizzling Games, Dan has been trying to work out the maths behind Spot It!, Steve has been building a tribute to the Gods in Teotihuacan, and Adrian can't tell us anything about Pandemic Legacy Season 2.
Our Topic of the Week is kids games for 5-9yr olds. First, we enlist Finn, Jack and Rafael to talk about their favourite games, but manage to wrestle control of the show before things get out of hand. Then we settle in to discuss some of the best kids games out there on the market, what to look for in a kid's game, and how to find the right game for your kids.
In Round 2 of the Boardgame Bracket we settle the winner from the 5 Minute Dungeon vs Spirit Island match-up before Mitch pops in to defend Too Many Bones against Adrian's It's A Wonderful World.
Finally, in Swear An Oath Dan and Adrian let down the side (again) by leaving Blackout: Hong Kong and Nemo's War unfulfilled. They did, however, complete Quacks of Quedlinburg and Welcome To, and Steve fulfilled Architects of the West Kingdom and 7 Wonders Duel. And new oaths are committed with Pendulum (Adrian), Towers of Arkhanos (Dan), and Trismagistus (Adrian)

Episode 37 - Special Guest: Vital Lacerda, plus Bonfire, The Cost, Barrage, Detective Season One, Root, Ride The Rails
In this episode we welcome the man, the myth, the legend - Vital Lacerda. Vital, of course, is the award-winning designer of heavy games such as Vihnos, The Gallerist, Escape Plan, and this year's hit release On Mars. He kindly gives us an insight into his game design, news on his next game Weather Machine, how he came to create a game with his daughter, and why he generally creates heavier games than other designers. And he even hangs around for our Sizzling Games segment!
Vital impresses everyone with his two Sizzling Games: Bonfire (an ethereal games about guardians of light trying to brighten a dark planet), and The Cost (an economy management game involving health and safety and of all things... asbestos). Adrian was blown away recently by Barrage, Sarah has been sleuthing in Detective: Season One, Def is finding the AI in Root to be Root-hless (see what I did there?), and Steve was driving his passengers mad in Ride The Rails.
In Boardgame Bracket news, we settle the Zombicide vs Scythe battle in our most-voted-for match-up to date. Then it's Def vs Adrian in our next battle: Gaia Project vs Arkham Horror 3rd Edition. In this episode Steve, Def and Jules dive into the world of heavy games. Our resident heavy-game expert, Def, shares his journey into the world of Vital Lacerda games, and Jules isn't afraid to dip his toe into complicated waters either. The team discusses some of their favourite heavy games, and all agree that if you put in the time to learn the rules you will soon find that the interconnectivity of the story and the consequences of your actions make heavy games so much more rewarding than other games.
In our Sizzling Games this week Jules discovers the joys of Azul, Def takes on the world of pollution and greedy governments (so basically real life) in CO2: Second Chance, and Steve goes one-on-one against his son in Unmatched.
In our Kickstarter segment the team shares what games have caught their eye. For Jules it's the city-builder Streets from Sinister Fish Games, and the new Lacerda thinky-filler Mercado de Lisboa has Def reaching for his wallet. And everyone is champing at the bit for the release of The 7th Citadel from Serious Poulp.
In our Board Game Bracket segment we announce the winner of the second-to-last match-up, On Mars vs Eclipse. With only one match-up left, Chronicles of Crime vs Everdell, we are almost ready to launch into Round 2 of the Board Game Bracket. But we need your help to get there so make sure you hit up our socials and vote for your favourites to make sure they survive.
Finally, in Swear An Oath, there are excuses aplenty!! Def failed to fulfil his Anachrony oath and tries to convince the others that purchasing Trickerion would balance the ledger for him. Jules played Portal, however his fulfillment of Brass: Birmingham is currently on pause so the team calls in the video referee to decide whether it counts as complete. He then commits to Vindication as his new oath. And Steve played A Feast For Odin back-to-back and thinks he has found a serious contender for his Top 10. And thanks to VR Distribution, Steve got his hands on My City - and swears an oath to get it to the table this weekend.

In this episode Steve, Dan and Conor are joined by the hottest designer in board gaming at the moment, Travis Jones. Travis, the designer of the recently released Pendulum, shares with us his journey from mild-mannered office worker to playtesting and releasing one of the most talked-about games this year. It's a fantastic interview and we were very grateful for his time. And he hangs around for the rest of the show!!
In our Sizzling Games this week Conor holds back the invaders on Spirit Island, Travis has been taking his friends into space in The Crew, and Dan plays cops and robbers in Stop Thief!
In our Board Game Bracket segment we resolve the Too Many Bones vs El Grande match-up, and then set-up the final bracket for Round 1: Chronicles of Crime vs Everdell. These are two massive games which are favourites amongst board gamers; Dan defends Chronicles of Crime while Conor vouches for Everdell; so make sure you get your vote in and make sure your favourite.
Finally, in Swear An Oath, Steve and Steve both managed to turn around their oaths in 48 hours, knocking over Tin Epic Kingdoms and Era: Medieval Age. Dan had a blast playing the cooperative Atlantis Rising. The team then swear oaths to play A Feast for Odin (Steve - pressured by Travis), Imperial Settlers: Empires of the North (Conor), and Trickerion: Legend of Illusion (Dan - egged on by Nereda and Wesley from our FB Community). And Travis even gets in on the action by swearing an oath to play Tribune: Primus Inter Pares.

In this episode Steve is joined by Conor and Sarah and the team discuss some great techniques to get family and friends in board games who might be averse to trying new things. In our Sizzling Games this week Conor enters the world of Portuguese wine in Vinhos, Sarah remains in control in... err, Ctrl, and Steve gets up to all kinds of shenanigans in Don't Get Got.
In our Board Game Bracket segment we settle our last listener-voted bracket; 7th Continent vs Seasons; and then set-up the next battle; On Mars vs Eclipse. And we have a special guest phone in to defend his On Mars nomination against Sarah's Eclipse argument. Both space-themed games sound excellent so expect this to be a close battle. While the team are still reeling from the Nemesis: Lockdown pledge manager (#nemesisbackerwallet), Sarah tells us about a really beautiful Japanese game; Izayoi; currently on Kickstarter. Meanwhile, Conor is keeping an eye out for the postman for his Super Fantasy Brawl and Cloudspire deliveries.
Finally in Swear An Oath, Conor channeled Sir Richard Attenborough in Dinosaur Island, Sarah pleased the Gods by playing Teotihuacan: City of Gods, and Steve got his cogs turning in Tzolk'in. The team then swear new oaths by committing to playing Era: Medieval Age (Conor), Res Arcana (Sarah) and Tiny Epic Kingdoms (Steve).
