As he's done many times, my friend Greg Pettit joins me for a mega-episode discussing all the games we played at BGGcon. Greg's an every-timer to BGGcon, while I went to the first one (2005), then a decade until my next in 2014 (first year I was an empty-nester), and sort of every-other-year since then. Looking back, I see I also went in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2022, and now 2024. I enjoy myself every time I go, but it's difficult to swing it every year. When you listen to this episode, you may find it helpful to follow along with our geeklist. That way you can track what games we've talked about, which are coming next, and what are 5-star ratings are. I've also inserted the game boxes here in the order discussed, which will also appear in the shownotes. The "Newest of the New" Games

When you are obliged to cite your sources is a fraught question, full of nuance. Even in academia there is some disagreement as to when yo quote, when to paraphrase, and when simply to assume common knowledge. Like the preceding sentence, for example--I assume it is common knowledge not requiring a citation, but then again maybe not, and were I using footnotes here I would comment on the absurdity of citations in episode notes (to say nothing of footnoting episode notes). And don't get me started on ibid, supra, and all their blighted ilk! Safer, I think, just not to ever read anything, and thus one's incoherent nonsense is indisputably one's own.
In this week’s podcast, Conor, Adrian and Joe serve up a slew of games. Adrian goes off the rails with an amuse-bouche sizzle of Age of Steam, before diving into a game of drafting and collecting sets in Sea, Salt & Paper. Joe has been playing his cards just right to build up his resources in 51st State – a game with a theme that definitely has nothing to do with current world events and everything is absolutely fine. Conor rounds it off with a war – in SPACE. He talks through the Undaunted series of games including its most recent standalone Undaunted 2200: Callisto. You'd think those corporations would be happier given they're fighting over the moon.
We then turn to our recap of last week’s question of the pod, and what is getting us fired up lately.
