Are you "Team Buttons" or "Team Maximum Effort" when you first play a board game? We answer this question and dive into the topic on why some board gamers are happy to explore without consequence and why others punish themselves on getting a great first game experience.
FIRST PLAYER: JP OTHER PLAYERS: Dan, Adrian & Kerley
In this episode you'll learn: - whether Adrian combo'd any castles in Castle Combo by Catch Up Games - how Dan got on with his first play of Nucleum by Board & Dice - more about the "edge" as JP experiences his first play of Andromeda's Edge by Cardboard Alchemy - that Kerley is re-visting some of his favourites including Perseverance Episode 1 by Mindclash Games - our take on board gamers who fall into two categories as they approach new games, whether you just there to push buttons and pull levers not worries about the outcomes or punishing yourself for not having the perfect first game.

Only three games in this episode and one of them is an expansion. So, you thought it would be a short episode? Nope, we make up for this in our extended, over the top discussion on Hegemony. Don't be scared by this game and the length. It is one of those games that just flowed and was easy to understand. Admit that each faction is different, but not to the point that you sit there and say that you have no idea what is going on with them. You can see how it all comes together in my opinion.
Looking to play a Mario Kart style game on the tabletop, then give Dungeon Kart a try. Little too chaotic for me and Marty and that might just be we are enjoying the simpler racing games. We appreciate what the game is pulling off and if you want that mayhem on the table, then give this a try
Thanks for listening and appreciate the support as always.
This week, Dana, Lauren and Joe run through the their gaming highs and lows over the past few weeks following on from PAX and local game days. Joe takes a break from Overwatch 2 to tell us about avoiding a fall from grace in Courtisans. Lauren has been answering movie trivia questions badly in Blockbuster. Dana has been taming beasts, though not her own, to create the best minions in The Vale of Eternity.
They also share the community responses from last week's Question of the Pod, share their gripes with this week's question, and get fired up for the coming week!

This week's guest is top bod at Gamefound, Luke Prior. We talk about the influence of Games Workshop, over production and whether or not crowd funding ruins game design...but which games did he choose?
Mark: Fishing Steve: Trick Taking Game Conventions (here's one, and here's another) Closers: Mark: What do I think is an OG game? I can tell what it ain't! Steve: What would new boardgamers think is an OG game?
My friend Steve Paap returns to his set of interview questions for me. A year and a half ago, back on episode 214, Steve turned the microphone around on me. Now he's back with more questions for yours truly.
First, though, he tries to rile me up by having me defend my "favorite boardgame" Entdecker from a variety of BGG comments from folks who didn't like it. They rate it a 4, 3, or 2, and explain why. Does it get under my skin? Not really. He says I'm too nice for that, Maybe that's it, but the truth is that no game is really for everybody, and I'm well aware that Entdecker is less-than-average for many gamers. There are some comments I find just inaccurate and wrong, though--that's true. -Mark
I think it's fair to say at this point, that we've pretty firmly established each of our respective tastes when it comes to board games, whether it's for genre, theme, mechanic, whatever. There's always something, though, right? Something that flies in the face of those rules and boldly proclaims, "I like this, even though..." Before we prove the rule, we talk about Andromeda's Edge, and Karvi. 03:05 - Andromeda's Edge 13:15 - Karvi 23:32 - Exceptions to our Gaming Tastes 24:47 - Through the Ages 26:41 - Ark Nova 30:57 - Stationfall 34:04 - Thunder Road: Vendetta 35:35 - Terra Mystica
Ambie and Crystal discuss a couple games they played recently, including Stamp Swap, Typeset, and Sausage Sizzle. Then, we talk about some "goody gifts" - small games that can fit in a stocking, goody bag, or trick or treat bag!
DroPolter: Ghost vs Palm Muscle is a whimsically absurd dexterity game. Drop your lucky charms in just the right order, then nab the ghost and win a tiny bell.
