Episode 49: Theme Tycoon
It's your turn...to click here to send us your comments on the show
Davey returns for another episode but this time we have a general chat about theme in board games, what we like, what we feel there isn't enough of and also what we would change to make some games more appealing
FIRST PLAYER: Davey
OTHER PLAYERS: JP, Becky & Kerley
OVERVIEW
In this episode you'll learn:
- all about JP's experiences in Chip Theory Games newest game Wroth, an area control game for people who don't like area control games
- that Davey brings his Oodie whilst playing Mythwind by Open Owl Studios
- about Unfringed's latest game coming to Gamefound Molehill Meadows and Beckys experiences with the game
- that Kerley still winds up JP by calling tricks as spells in Trickerion's big expansion Dalhgaards Academy by Mindclash Games
- that due to a bumper "Let's Talk About Hex" segment there isn't a "Would You Rather" this time but it will return next time
- about the groups preferences on themes and what they would like to see more of in the hobby

#305: Barely Alive
I never really understood the term "undead." I mean, it's a binary, right? If it's not dead it must be alive, at least in the context of things that could or were once alive. The negation never seemed to be doing enough work to imply what it was intended to imply. That is, until Walker and Mark got sick. They're not dead, but going straight to "alive" seems a rather hopeful exaggeration. Undead seems appropriate for now.

This week Dan, Conor and Lauren chat about all the games they played on their recent board game getaway to Brisbane. Also listen out for a bonus Question of the Pod about Elijah Wood and whether he has been posing for board game art.
After that we've got the regularly scheduled Question of the Pod, and we make absolutely, definitely unbreakable oaths.

Boardgames To Go 226 - Dice Tower West 2024
Opener: The final winners for Mark Madness! Castles of Burgundy and
eryn roston
@baditude
Closer: A specific call for feedback to the podcast. Tell me what you like me to do more of, or do less. Session Report & Feedback episodes, like the old days? All About shows (more old days)? Something else? Over the years I've been to many game conventions, both big & small. However, it wasn't until this past month that I attended a Dice Tower event. The Dice Tower West annual game convention is held in the west, in Las Vegas, which means it's a pretty easy drive for me - four hours across the southwest. Though I'm not really a Vegas kind of guy, this is still a big geek convention of boardgamers, right? Right. In that, it felt very familiar to the multiple times I've visited BGGcon in Dallas...just in a different city, hosted by a different organization. I knew some of my buddies had attended in prior years, and many months I started asking them if they'd attend in 2024. I think most of us were on the fence, but hearing other friends may attend helped collectively push most of us into signing up. A couple had to back out due to unexpected life commitments, but enough of my gang went that we were able to fill game tables the whole time. In this episode, I talk about ALL of the games I played during this Wednesday-Sunday major event. Half of that discussion is about old games, or OG games, or whatever you want to call them. How old? We decided the cutoff should be a quarter-century. Focusing one of our convention days on titles at least 25 years old meant we had a full Friday of pre-2000 games. Games from the last century...the last millennium! Practically speaking, we played games from the 1990s, which is when many of our group got into modern boardgaming, including yours truly. If you appreciate retro gaming like we do, you'll love the first half of the episode. If not, skip ahead to the interlude music break near the 55-minute mark, and then I transition into some newer titles. That represented the other half of what I played at the convention. Including lots of card games, which are having their moment in the sun right now. Wonderful! (Even though I didn't love all of the card games I played, as you'll hear, I love that we're playing so many of them again.) -Mark

#249 - The Ancient Art of Putting It All On Red
On this addictive episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down podcast, Tom and Pip are talking about a board game and… a VIDEO GAME? First up, a sensible and grounded conversation about the slightly perplexing world of Ancient Knowledge - a tableau builder set on top of an ancient conveyor belt. This is then followed by a ramble about Balatro - a poker-themed deck builder that’s quite clearly NOT A BOARD GAME. It’s made of ones and zeroes! It’s on a screen! The horror, the horror, the horror.
Have a great weekend, everybody!

It's your turn...to click here to send us your comments on the show
It's time for some more footage from the archives again from Episodes 37 - 42 and some of our expansion packs around that era. In this batch Craig David makes an appearance, Kerley keeps bashing Lacerdas only playing just one of the designs, some behind the scenes Essen nonsense, Rob gets caught watching football whilst recording an episode and ever wondered what the cross over between Star Wars and Coronation Street sounds like? We apologise in advance...

We haul ourselves off of our deathbeds to deliver this episode unto you. Prospects for our recovery seem dim, but we would sooner die than deprive you of that which is most sacred--namely content. Of course, illness may yet claim us, but we are far too stoic and noble to complain.
