#255: The Great Wall

Von: Pickaxe
21. März 2023 um 11:00

Everything's gotta be a competition. "I've seen better walls," scoffs the ingrate. "I've had darker ages," insists the depressive. "Well, I'm a Time Duke," growls the superstar Duke (esq., O.B.E.). It's all right, people. We can accept the superlatives without making it a contest.

Episode 234: Special Guest Sam Macdonald

21. März 2023 um 00:30

Episode 234: Special Guest: Sam Macdonald! Plus, Adrian and Dan.

Join Adrian and Dan as they welcome Sam Macdonald back to the show. Sam joins us hot on the heels of another successful KS campaign - this time for Scholars of the South Tigris. Sam shares more of his unique perspectives on game design, as well as giving us sneak peek into the next in the South Tigris trilogy due out in 2024. In Sizzling Games, Sam has been wandering the wilderness with wood and Dan debriefs his detective days.

We also recap last week's Question of the Pod: What do you look for in an expansion? Thanks to everyone who contributed and shared their experiences with us on Discord and the Facebook Community.

Finally, in Swear An Oath, Adrian is really getting the hang of playing solo, Dan hasn't managed to have a Quiet Year since the birth of his kids, and Sam managed to subdue the Sleeping Gods. New oaths include more painting (Adrian), Star Wars: Unlock Trilogy (Dan) and Friedrich (Sam).

Question of the Pod: What is the best solo mode automa you've played? Why?

Sizzling Games: Lignum, Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game
Question of the Pod Recap

Boardgames To Go 213D - Mark Madness The Sweet 16

This micro-episode shares some overview of the Rounds 1 & 2 voting, such as blowout wins and close calls. I get to share the Sweet 16 and imagine which of the four games in each of the four divisions will emerge victorious to battle against the others. Hint: don't bet against The Crew (any version!)

Please remember to keep voting. Each round of voting is open for a few days, and I keep adding to the same geeklist to do it. Scroll down to find it.

Garrett's Games 872: Tony Boydell - Designer, Writer, Museum Owner - in conversation

19. März 2023 um 14:00

I had a week off in February, so while Shelley was at work one day, I spent part of my day on a Google Meet call with the wonderful Tony Boydell - designer of such games as Snowdonia, Lux Aeterna, Alubari: A Nice Cup of Tea, Race the Rails, and - of course - Scandaroon!

We discuss his past designs, creating a brand new Museum of Board Games, and some of the games he's playing currently.

It's a wide-ranging discussion - we had a great time, and hope you enjoy it!

And if you're able to sponsor the podcast, you can do that in two ways: either on Patreon:

OR by purchasing games from our list of games that need to find new homes:
