#194: Our Gaming Autobiographies

Von: Pickaxe
07. Dezember 2021 um 12:00
We skip over substantial portions of our hosts' stories, of course. No mention is made of Walker's extensive experience with Gilbert & Sullivan. Mark's stint as the Official Pokémon Master of Canada is glossed over. The deep tribal conflict of Jocks versus Geeks, of which Walker is destined to be the bridge (think Dune but even more messianic), is only alluded to. Someday, the whole story might be told, but you wouldn't believe us.

05. Dezember 2021 um 13:00
(Apologies for my mic quality in this one. Darn Zoom. I did the best I could to recover the audio). I interview Cole Medeiros, designer of Stardew Valley, the Board Game, about designing a different style of cooperative game. We discuss realizing the open world, delightful spirit of the video game in cardboard in a way that satisfies the hobby gamer instinct for control and agency. #164 - Rushin' Retail

03. Dezember 2021 um 12:43

In this industrious 164th episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down Podcast, Matt and Quinns are mostly talking about two games where I (Tom, hello) rinsed them; two crusty brains pummelled into the dust by three cups of coffee and an unending desire to ‘prove myself’ in the cardboard battlegrounds of ‘board games’. Huzzah.

On this podcast you can hear words about the hellacious retail disasterpiece of Brick & Mortar, the dice-chucking mayhem of Rush Out! and the nonsensical auctions of Furnace. Three games wallowing in a lot of minutes - minutes stuffed with observations, rammed with remarks and runneth(ing) over with criticismé.

Have a lovely weekend, folks!

We're revisiting our crimes of yesteryear, and checking in on how guilty we are. Before we audit our past selves, we talk about Warp's Edge, Carolus Magnus, and Unfathomable.

#193: Praga Caput Regni

Von: Pickaxe
30. November 2021 um 12:00
We have become feature-hungry here at SVWAG. We debut Walker's Language Corner which, let us be frank, is not apt to be repeated, especially given Walker's aversion to dead languages. We finally name a recurring segment that has been airing unaccredited for years, and we have dubbed in Mark's Rage Theatre. It is Festivus every day of the year, and Mark has some grievances to air.

Games Played Last Week:
01:18 -Paper Dungeons (Leandro Pires, MeepleBR, 2020)
04:40 -Sheepy Time (Neil Kimball, Alderac Entertainment Group, 2021)

12:07 -Disney Gargoyles: Awakening (Nate Heiss, Ravensburger, 2021)
16:26 -Imperial Steam (Alexander Huemer, Capstone Games, 2021)
21:14 -Puerto Rico (Andreas Seyfarth, alea, 2002)
27:49 -Beez (Dan Halstad, Next Move Games, 2020)
30:03 -Keyflower (Sebastien Bleasdale & Richard Breese, R&D Games, 2012) BGA implementation by Radu Stefan & Adam Dewbery
34:31 -Llamaland (Phil Walker-Harding, Lookout Games, 2021)
36:04 -Cellulose (John Coveyou & Steve Schlepphorst, Genuis Games, 2022)

TDT # 738 - Games Ahead of Their Time

30. November 2021 um 12:00

In this episode, Tom and Eric discuss the G.I. Joe Deckbuilding Game, Star Clicker, Crimes and Capers: Lady Leona's Last Wishes, Roll Player Adventures, and Gutenberg. Geoff explores a study that questions our perception of things, and we answer questions from the mailbag, one of which is a little horrific. Then, we close the show with a Top Ten list of games that were ahead of their time.
