#123 - The All-New Family GameZone™ Special

04. Dezember 2020 um 23:37

Oh no. It happened again. Tom pitched a segment to management, and look at what happened. An entire half of a podcast, absolutely ruined.

On this delectably 123rd episode of the Shut Up and Sit Down Podcast, join an incredibly tired Tom, Matt and Ava to discuss a smattering of games, most of which are juuuust fine. Sandwiching this podcast are twin discussions about Thurn Und Taxis and Under Falling Skies - and in between? It’s Tom’s Family GameZone, where we’ll (?) discuss (?) such riveting (?) titles as Cupcake Academy, What’s Missing?, Mr. Face, MonsDRAWsity, and Herd Mentality. Help!

Have a lovely weekend, everybody!

Episode 220: Viscounts of the West Kingdom and The Sins of the Rulebook

02. Dezember 2020 um 06:55
Hey Now Cabalists! The gang is back for another nonsense filled episode of The Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast. Today we start out hearing Tony's complaints about Kickstarter and discuss some games we've been playing including Altar Quest, Dune Imperium, Smartphone, Inc, Charterstone, Unmatched, and King’s Dilemma. Then the crew jumps into our feature review of Viscounts of the West Kingdom designed by Shem Phillips and published by Renegade Games. Tony T, as always, throws down the best damned news segment in all of tabletop gaming media and the rest of the boys quack in the background. And finally, the Founder's host a discussion about rulebooks. Do we like them? Hate them? And the traits of good and bad rulebooks. #146: Dungeon Crawlers

Von: Pickaxe
01. Dezember 2020 um 12:00
One is reminded of those memes that plot definitions on two axes, asking to what degree the reader is a purist or a rebel--the setting purist and the mechanical purist would say "Descent is a dungeon crawler." Perhaps the setting purist and mechanical rebel would say "Dungeon Lords is a dungeon crawler." Invariably these memes revel in the reductio ad absurdum, so I have to imagine the setting rebel and the mechanical rebel would say "Hopscotch is a dungeon crawler."

Episode 55 - Mike, Mitch & Dan's Top 10 Games of All-Time!

30. November 2020 um 00:55

Episode 55 - Mike, Mitch & Dan's Top 10 Games of All-Time!

We've saved the best until last. It's time for the Top 10s for 2020 from Mike, Mitch and Dan. It's the Zombie King, the solo player, and the family man - and with three Top 10s that may surprise you.

We also launch another Board Game Bracket: Great Western Trail vs Dinosaur Island. It's basically Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park vs Billy Crystal in City Slickers. Cretaceous vs Cows. Brontosaurus vs Bovine. Make sure you hit up our socials to cast your vote and make sure your favourite gets through to the next round!

And finally in Swear An Oath, the lads make another mess of things, with oaths unfulfilled and no consideration to what oaths will be next. Honestly, this is what happens when Steve hands the reins over to someone else!!

Shannon has done a ton of research on puzzles and how they relate to culture and cultural biases for Wilfred Laurier University. And she has a great system for defining and understanding the different types of puzzles in games.
