Episode 55 - Mike, Mitch & Dan's Top 10 Games of All-Time!
We've saved the best until last. It's time for the Top 10s for 2020 from Mike, Mitch and Dan. It's the Zombie King, the solo player, and the family man - and with three Top 10s that may surprise you.
We also launch another Board Game Bracket: Great Western Trail vs Dinosaur Island. It's basically Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park vs Billy Crystal in City Slickers. Cretaceous vs Cows. Brontosaurus vs Bovine. Make sure you hit up our socials to cast your vote and make sure your favourite gets through to the next round!
And finally in Swear An Oath, the lads make another mess of things, with oaths unfulfilled and no consideration to what oaths will be next. Honestly, this is what happens when Steve hands the reins over to someone else!!

Shannon McDowell, puzzle maker and escape room designer, discusses what designers and publishers need to think about when designing puzzle games and games with puzzles in them.
Shannon has done a ton of research on puzzles and how they relate to culture and cultural biases for Wilfred Laurier University. And she has a great system for defining and understanding the different types of puzzles in games.
In episode 67 Don and Jamie get together to talk about board games that set the trends and revolutionized board game design and some that have stood the test of time and some that have faded into obscurity. Then we list of some of the most unique games we have played that you might want to add to your collection.
In this show, Tom is joined by Jeremy Howard as Eric is away. We talk about Paris, Almanac, and Whistle Mountain. Geoff brings some insight that's for the birds and we dive into a slew of questions. Do we get Kickstarter regret? Are there any one-vs-many games that play well with two players? How do we deal with someone who is attached to their phone during a game day? And more! Finally, we end the show talking about our favorite hybrid games - games that combine two or more mechanics.
It is the nature of the Walker who cries wolf that if he repeats the claim often and consistently enough, it might come true eventually. Despite the unrelenting constancy of Chinese New Year, some games do actually get produced--just only after they have emerged from their purgatorial delay in the never-ending holiday. So it is with Tidal Blades; after claims of "any day now" for years, it finally arrived, like some unwieldy piece of oversized deluxe... well... is it flotsam or jetsam? We must review it to find out.

On this week’s BUMPER BOX podcast we’ve got SIX entire GameBoards for you to picture in your head as we loosely describe them with words and, quite frankly, a lot of noises? This podcast is really great if you’re a young child and want to hear a bunch of cool new ways you can make sounds with your mouth.
What games are we going to create frequencies about this time, I hear you ask? We’ll be chatting about the unusual themes of Zestrea, the beautiful butterflies of Mariposas, the wonders of the internet in Sumatra, and sheer, unadulterated organisation in Maglev Metro. Then, to round it all out, we have a ramble about Fleet: The Dice Game and Troyes Dice - two games with the same core that couldn’t be more different. That makes it sound like a mid 90s comedy that stars Danny DeVito and Dwayne Johnson. Does that exist? It might already exist.
Boy, what a year it's been for accumulating games that we can't play. The shelf of shame, the collection of games we own that are yet to see a single play, has been steadily growing, and it's about time we pruned it. We check in on the games most deserving of that first play. Before we take a walk of shame, we talk about Sonora, Troyes Dice, Macao, Quantum, and Rurik: Dawn of Kiev.
01:49 - Sonora 04:17 - Troyes Dice 07:14 - Macao 08:22 - The Castles of Burgundy 09:41 - Quantum 16:30 - Rurik: Dawn of Kiev 30:55 - Shelf of Shame update 40:12 - Star Wars: Rebellion 40:59 - Maracaibo 42:04 - Stock hold'em 45:25 - Bioshock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia 47:10 - Antike II
Episode 52: Barenpark, Tapestry: Plans & Ploys, Robin Hood & His Merry Men
Sizzling Games: Barenpark (02:20), Tapestry: Plans & Ploys (09:00), Robin Hood & His Merry Men (19:59)
Topic of the Week: Heavy Games (30:16)
