In episode 15 the Lords take a question from a Cabalist regarding how their group handles mixing good and evil player characters in the same adventuring party. Then they discuss loot and rewards in role playing games and how it's important to balance the economy in your games.
As it happens, games do not spawn ex nihilo, fully armed and armored from Zeus' forehead. I'm certain that's what most of you believed, but it's not true! To confirm this implausible fact, Mark sat down with Eric Reuss, the designer of Spirit Island, to talk about stuff. Walker and Mark also discuss The City of Kings, a game that is a fascinating mixture of euro mechanics, grand adventure, and both excellent and terrible theming.

This week I invite the designer of one of my favorite games, Guilds of London to the cabin. We discuss his process, the demise of the British rail system and designing a game just for his family. But what games did he choose?
I’ve got some exciting announcements for the BGDL:
1) I’m starting a new thing that will hopefully lead to an even greater sense of community. Today, with the incredible help of Chris Perea, a BGDL Discord server has launched which will offer you another way to interact with others in the community and will lead to…
2) BGDL Game Nights. I want to provide opportunities for people (especially those in more isolated locations) to be able to get together and play games. Both published games and prototypes. So, the BGDL is going to start hosting regular game nights through Discord and Tabletop Simulator. The first game night will be May 12th.
3) Giveaway. We’re giving away 2 copies of Tabletop Simulator. All you have to do is fill out this short form and you’ll be entered to win. The form will give us a better idea about what the community wants as far as game nights are concerned.
4) Game design tutorial videos. Chris Perea is putting together regular content to teach you how to do various design related tasks, starting with getting your game setup on Tabletop Simulator. Please subscribe to the BGDL Youtube channel to see all the current and future how-to guides.
HONK! After a long journey, the latest Shut Up & Sit Down podcast is now docking with your ears. The pinnacle of opinion-container technology, it's 400 metres long bow to stern (but you shouldn't feel a thing since it's largely metaphorical).
The thing is, the boys have finally played Container, a ridiculous economic game that'll be enjoying a similarly ridiculous new "Jumbo" edition in July. This podcast also contains chat about Decrypto (see Paul's recent review) and Medici, each of which deliver big experiences in small containers.
Finally, we spend a whopping 25 minutes discussing two games: Brass: Lancashire, which is the new edition of classic game Brass, and Brass: Birmingham, the hot new "sequel". We've now played both of these much-anticipated games, and you know what? Going against Quinns' Brass video review, Shut Up & Sit Down can finally recommend Brass. But you'll have to listen to find out why...
This week, we explain and expound our experiences with expansions. Improvements, tweaks, variability: the benefits are clear, but what does tacking more onto a game mean for all your players? Is it always a good thing? How much is too much? Before we get there, we discuss Altiplano, Omen: A Reign of War, Felicity: The Cat in the Sack, and A Feast for Odin.
Timecodes:
01:41 - Omen: A Reign of War 09:39 - Altiplano 18:58 - A Feast for Odin 28:11 - Felicity: The Cat in the Sack 30:56 - Expansions
We got three days left on the Kickstarter! Head over there if you're like to support the Secret Cabal for another year. Today the gang takes a look at the brand new Avengers Infinity War tie in game, Thanos Rising! And then the founders look back at 51st State the Master Set one year later. Tony T gives you a news segment filled with deceit and treachery while the rest of that chimes in. Then finally a short topic extravaganza including the most popular games the year we were born, games we'd love to explore deeply, should games punish you for making poor choices and our favorite and least favorite end game triggers.
Chad, Clef and Richie talk about their recent plays of Gloomhaven, The Bottle Imp and Merlin. Discuss buying games and culling games from their collections. Then review Charterstone by Stonemaier Games.

This podcast scales seamlessly from 2 to an in finite number of listeners, but we're not nearly that optimistic. Walker sometimes dreams of a solo mode, but sadly Mark insists on speaking. Mark and Walker again turn to Vlaada Chvatil, a designer who loves idiosyncrasy and detail--sometimes to excess. Walker asks if it would be appropriate to rant, and Mark gladly lets him off leash.
